Brief Synopsis

In 1825 a slave woman in Britain's "Mother Colony" of St. Christopher sued her masters for freedom. Not for herself, but her two young sons. Though she was lawfully entitled, she was dismissed, beaten, threatened and subjected to punishments so creative & cruel that she became one of the first international sensations of the late colonial era. She persisted, was punished, persisted again and was punished again. Still, she persisted even more. Her bravado, tenacity and sheer grit angered and empowered Abolitionist movements around the world, and helped to dismantle almost 400 years of European economic subjugation, slavery and brutality in the Americas.

Her name is Betto Douglas. Her story is yet to be told. Her heroism is yet to be sung.
